Aren’t all prebiotics the same?

MegaPre™ contains medium-chain carbohydrates, known as oligosaccharides, that cannot be digested by humans but instead target keystone species known as secondary degraders.

Primary degraders feed on the bulkier fibers like cellulose, resistant starches, and inulin and then convert them into intermediate products like acetate, lactate, and oligosaccharides that can then feed the butyrate-producing secondary degraders. These complex fibers are important because they can feed beneficial bacteria, but they can also be utilised by harmful bacteria.

MegaPre™ skips the first step and provides the gut microbiome with the intermediate byproducts it needs to produce beneficial short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) like butyrate, one of the most integral “postbiotics”.

A study done in 2019 showed that SCFA production increased by 80-140% when using the combination of MegaSporeBiotic™ and MegaPre™ versus 24-70% with MegaSporeBiotic™ alone. This significantly validates the synbiotic approach to gut health. The oligosaccharides in MegaPre™ have been clinically shown to increase keystone species like Akkermansia muciniphila, Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, and Bifidobacteria.

MegaPre™, through the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), stimulates intestinal cells to produce a protective compound known as -defensin that helps keep the gut microbiome in balance. Butyrate is a critically important short chain fatty acid powerhouse that does a lot of important things i.e. cleanup ammonia, benefits the brain, heart, liver, anti-inflammatory, blood sugar balancing etc.

One study found that consuming Livaux® oligosaccharides, found in MegaPre™, could modulate the immune system by increasing the production of T-cells and immunoglobulins. Another study conducted on the effects of B-GOS on immune function in elderly adults found that it significantly increased phagocytosis and natural killer cell activity.
